FAQS
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session is a chance to get to know each other and begin to understand what has brought you to counselling. We’ll talk about what you’re experiencing, what you would like support with and what you hope to get from therapy.
You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to say. There is no pressure to share everything straight away, and we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you.
What experience do you have?
Lora is a qualified person-centred counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She has also gained clinical experience through placements with Mind in Rochdale and 1Point Bolton.
Lora's counselling work focuses particularly on anxiety, overwhelm, low self-esteem, life transitions, ADHD, and the specific pressure of being high-achieving or seen as someone who copes well.
How long will I need therapy?
There is no fixed answer. Some people find that a relatively short period of counselling gives them the space and support they need, while others choose to continue for longer and explore things in greater depth.
The length of therapy will depend on what brings you to counselling and what feels useful for you. We can review the work together as we go.
How much does counselling cost?
Sessions last 50 minutes. Sessions are £65 for in-person appointments and £60 for online sessions.
Counselling is currently offered online and by telephone, with online sessions available across the UK.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. What you share in counselling is treated as confidential. There are some circumstances where information may need to be shared, for example if there is a serious risk of harm or where disclosure is required by law.
The limits of confidentiality will be explained clearly before therapy begins, so you know what to expect.
Do I need to prepare before starting therapy?
Not at all. You don't need to have the right words, a clear explanation or everything figured out before you begin.
You might know exactly what you want to talk about, or you might simply know that something doesn't feel right. Either is completely fine. We can start from wherever you are.
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to have counselling for ADHD-related difficulties?
No. You do not need an ADHD diagnosis to explore experiences that may be connected to ADHD.
You may already have a diagnosis, be considering an assessment, or simply recognise yourself in some of the experiences associated with ADHD. Counselling can focus on how these experiences affect your emotions, self-esteem, relationships, identity and everyday life.
Lora does not diagnose ADHD, but can offer a space to explore your experiences and develop greater self-understanding.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?
It is completely normal to feel unsure about starting therapy. You don't need to know whether counselling will work for you before you make contact.
The therapeutic relationship is an important part of the process, so finding someone you feel comfortable with matters. An initial conversation can give you a chance to ask questions, get a sense of how Lora works and decide whether it feels like the right fit for you.
Can I have therapy for just a few sessions?
Yes. There is no requirement to commit to long-term therapy.
Some people want support around a particular situation or period of change, while others want longer-term space to explore things more deeply. The work can be reviewed as you go to make sure it remains relevant and useful.
Do you offer online counselling across the UK?
Yes. Lora offers online counselling to adults across the UK via a secure video platform. Telephone sessions are also available.
In-person counselling is available from private clinics in Springhead, Saddleworth and Shaw.
Do you offer evening appointments?
Evening appointments are available online, subject to availability. If you need a particular day or time, it is worth getting in touch to discuss what may be possible.
Do I have to be having therapy to access strength coaching?
No. While strength coaching can complement counselling for clients working on both, it's also available as a standalone service. You don't need to be a therapy client to book coaching, and there's no requirement to do both together.
